A Local Resource for Emergency Relief and Disaster Prevention

Operating in Marin County for over 100 years, we are the only state-designated resource and waterfront operation in Northern California that can transport materials via barge to specific project destinations.

The San Rafael Rock Quarry (SRRQ) is one of Northern California’s most valuable deposits of natural rock and a critical resource that serves municipalities around the greater Bay Area. In operation since the 1870s, SRRQ provides riprap for Delta levees, shoreline protection from coastal erosion, and emergency flood protection. The site also supplies materials such as gravel, asphalt concrete, and sand for local roads and other public works.

Quarry In Action— Local Projects

In addition to supplying materials for local construction projects, the Quarry provides crucial products to support local infrastructure and municipal projects aimed at mitigating the potential impacts of climate change including sea-level rise, shore protection from storm surges, and flooding.
